While we’re at all this chin-wagging we thought we’d drop in on our Sheffield dwellers Kill The Captains, the band are up for a jolly at Barmellodie this Friday coming (20th May) and Edinburgh (Ides of Toad) the following night (21st May). Here’s what they had to say…

Hello, fa are you and fit do ye dee?
I’m Paul Andrew Collins Esquire and I play the drums in Sheffield-based beat combo Kill the Captains.

Your debut album ‘Fun Anxiety’ just turned 1 year old this month (since release), how do you feel about your debut opus now? Musically and with the reception it got from peeps?
I think it really stands up well… it’s a document of a particular time and place and it sends me back to those heady days of 2009… I-Pods and happy slapping were all the range and people wore remarkably similar fashions to those of today. I’ve still got about 800 copies hanging around my neck like some kind of beautifully-produced albatross. Anyone want to buy any albums?

What’s been going on since it was released?
Leon selfishly became a Dad and Paul moved to London to work as a teacher. Luckily we’ve now got Mr Ric Booth who has joined the band. He looks like Dennis WIlson and can play the guitar just like ringing a bell. We’ve written a whole new set of material in the hitherto unrecognised genre of Platform Shoegaze. It’ll never catch on.

When can we next see your sexy chops live?
Next weekend we’re visiting Scotland, on Friday 20th May, we unveil our new JLS-influenced direction in Glasgow at Barmellodie to the horror of everyone involved in the label. After that, it’s a brisk route-march to Edinburgh College of Art on Saturday 21 May. Oh and we’re playing a cracking festival called Peace in Park in Sheffield on Saturday 4th June.
